Fue uno de los cirujanos más completos y más inquietos en su formación. Desde muy joven incursionó además
de la cirugía, que fue su pasión, en el estudio de la Anatomía Patológica, siendo en este aspecto un referente para
sus colegas. Alumno del Profesor Abel CHIFFLET, integrante de una
generación de brillantes cirujanos, abrazó con entusiasmo la Cirugía
Colorrectal, llegando a constituirse en uno de los primeros expertos en
esa rama de la cirugía.
Docente vocacional, en la Facultad de Medicina alcanzó por la via del
concurso todos los cargos de la carrera docente hasta llegar al máximo
grado a que puede aspirar un Cirujano: Profesor de Clínica Quirúrgica.
Ejerció ese cargo con gran destaque y dignidad.
Fue desplazado de ese cargo por razones de enfrentamientos políticos
ajenos al desempeño de la tarea académica.
Soportó con hidalguía dicha adversidad, manteniéndose enhiesto e
íntegro sin manifestar rencor ante la injusta situación.
Llegó a nuestro Hospital Central de las Fuerzas Armadas en el año
1990 como consultante del Servicio de Cirugía General. A pesar de
sus credenciales se integró como un colaborador más sin pretender
desempeñar cargos de Jefatura, a los que naturalmente pudo haber
aspirado.
Poco a poco fue ganándose el respeto de todos los médicos de este Hospital y transformándose en el apoyo
incondicional de los cirujanos más jóvenes ante situaciones difíciles.
Por sus características personales y su bonhomía fue el referente para dar un consejo sabio y sereno cuando alguna
situación compleja se presentaba en el quehacer diario de las actividades del Servicio.
Su sonrisa fraterna y su broma a or de labios para descomprimir situaciones de tensión fueron tambien recursos que
utilizó con maestría.
Partió un día de enero del año 2002 sin avisarnos y como había llegado, con sencillez y humildad.
Los que tuvimos el honor de conocerlo y el privilegio de trabajar a su lado, lo ubicamos en un lugar preferente de los
cirujanos y de los grandes seres humanos que integraron el grupo de médicos del Hospital Central.

He was one of the most thorough and committed surgeons during his medical training. From his early years he was not
only interested in surgery, his passion, but also in the study of Pathology Anatomy, where he became a reference for
his peers. He studied with Professor Abel CHIFFLET, member of a generation of brilliant surgeons; he devoted himself
to Colorectal Surgery with enthusiasm, a surgical area where he became one of the rst experts.
He was a vocational teacher; at the School of Medicine he achieved, through contests of merits, all the appointments
in his teaching career until he reached the maximum degree any surgeon can aspire: Surgical Clinic Professor. He held
that post with an outstanding performance and dignity.
He was removed from this post due to political differences, unrelated to the performance of his academic tasks.
He faced this adversity with nobility; he remained upright and honourable without any resentment in the face of this
unfair situation.
In 1990 he joined our Armed Forces Central Hospital as a consultant at the General Surgery Service. In spite of his
credentials, he was just one more cooperating member, with no intention to be appointed as Service Chief, to which he
could have naturally aspired.
Gradually he achieved respect from all the doctors of this Hospital and became the unconditional support for younger
surgeons whenever difcult situations appeared.
Due to his personal characteristics and his good nature he was a reference source for wise and calm advice, whenever
there was a complex situation in daily Service activities.
His warm smile and quick jokes that could calm down tense situations were also resources that he mastered.
One day in January 2002 le left us with no warning, just as he had arrived, simply and humbly.
Those of us who were honoured to have known him, and had the privilege of working beside him, place him in a
preference echelon among surgeons and among those human beings who once were part of the group of doctors of
the Central Hospital.
