El Tte.Cnel. (O) Miguel Angel Banchieri, nació en Montevideo el
20 de Abril de 1932.
Ingresando a la Facultad de Odontología en Marzo de 1950 y
egresando en Junio de 1955.
Desarrolló su actividad profesional en diversas áreas dentro de
la Facultad de Odontología.
1951 – 1954: Ayudante de clase de Anatomía General y Buco-Dental.
1956: Colaborador Interino en la enseñanza de Anatomía General Buco-Dental.
1962 – 1965: Asistente interino de Clínica Quirúrgica de 3er curso.
1965 – 1982: Profesor Adjunto Titular de Clínica Quirúrgica Bucal 3º.
1966 – 1972: Jefe del Servicio de Emergencia Titular
1972 – 1984: Profesor Titular de Anatomía General

Círculo de Odontólogos de Paraguay y en la Revue Internationale des Services de Santé des armees de

El 1º de Febrero de 1961 ingresa como Cirujano Dentista de la Policlínica Central Odontológica en ese entonces del
Servicio de Sanidad de las Fuerzas Armadas.
Como integrante del Departamento participó en numerosos tribunales de concursos para ingresos y ascensos de
Profesionales en los distintos escalafones de la Dirección Nacional de Sanidad.
Luchó para que se ampliara la Policlínica Central Odontológica creando el 3º Nivel, para centrar todas las
especialidades. Promoviendo así el actual Departamento de Odontología, el cual se crea en el año 1988.
Durante la 2º Guerra Mundial se planificaron Centros Especializados para los heridos Maxilo Faciales por arma de
Fuego, en Inglaterra, como el Servicio de H. Gillies y W. Kelsey Fry, equipos formados por Cirujanos Plásticos,

Odontólogos especialistas, Cirujanos generales y Anestesistas. Así que lo tomó como ejemplo y en 1973 crea en el
Hospital Militar un equipo conformado por el Servicio de Cirugía Plástica y el Servicio de Cirugía Buco Maxilo Facial
(BMF) de Odontología el cual estuvo integrado por los Cirujanos Plásticos: Eq.Cap. Dr. Guido Negrín, Cap.(M)
Marcos Colombo y por los Cirujanos Odontólogos Cap.(O) Miguel Banchieri y Tte.2º.(O) Mario Scarrone.
En el período 1991 y 2003 fue asesor del Estado Mayor Personal de Sanidad y del H.C.FF.AA.
En ese período participó en el Comité de reestructura de la Sanidad Militar y fue el ideólogo de los CARE (Centros
de Atención Regional del Ejército), CAU, CAZ, etc., creando así el 1º nivel de atención primaria en forma
descentralizada.
No sólo trasmitió conocimiento y experiencias desde el punto de vista profesional, científico y de gestión, sino que
fue un referente y un modelo a seguir.
Esta breve síntesis de su vida profesional desde su comienzo hasta su fallecimiento el 18 de febrero del año 2004,
pretende ser un reconocimiento sincero de quienes tuvimos el privilegio de trabajar y aprender, con quien dedicó su
vida a la Institución.

Lt.Col.(D.) Miguel Angel Banchieri was born in Montevideo, in April 20,
1932
He attended the School of Dentistry from March 1950 until his graduation
in June, 1955.
He carried out his professional activities in different areas within the
School of Dentistry.
1951 – 1954: Assistant in the General and Bucco-Dental Anatomy class.
1956: Interim collaborator, teaching General Bucco-Dental Anatomy.
1962 – 1965: Interim Assistant in Surgical Clinics, 3rd. year.
1965 – 1982: Permanent Assistant Professor of Surgical Clinics, 3rd. year.
1966 – 1972: Permanent Chief of the Emergency Service.
1972 – 1984: Permanent Professor of General Anatomy.
Among his published papers, we shall mention the following:
Osteitis and Osteomyelitis (with the contribution of Dr. Barreiro)
Surgical Anatomy of the region of the lower third molar (Actualidades
Odontológicas).
Intraoral Anesthesia in the posterior dental and anterior palate nerves

In February 1, 1961, he joined as a Dental Surgeon at the Central Dental
Clinic of which was then called the Health Service of the Armed Forces.

As a member of this Department, he took part in many admission and
promotion examination boards, for professionals in different echelons of
the National Health Direction.
He strived for the expansion of the Central Dental Clinic, and he created
the 3rd. level, in order to concentrate all the specialities, thus promoting
the current Dentistry Department, created in 1988.
During the 2nd. World War Specialized Centers were planned for Maxillo-
facial wounds caused by firearms, in England, such as the Service of H.
Gillies and W. Kelsey Fry, teams formed by Plastic Surgeons, Specialized
Dentists, General Surgeons and Anesthesists. He took them as an
example and in 1973 he created, at the Military Hospital, a team formed
by the Plastic Surgery Service and the Dentistry Bucco-Maxillo-Facial
Surgery Service (BMF), which was formed by Plastic Surgeons: Capt.(Dr.)
Guido Negrín, Capt.(Dr.) Marcos Colombo and by Dental Surgeons
Capt.(D.) Miguel Banchieri and 2nd.Lt.(D) Mario Scarrone.
Between 1991 and 2003 he was Counselor of the Personnel Staff of the
National Health Direction and the Armed Forces Central Hospital.
Within this period he took part of the Military Health Service Re-structure
Committee and he was the creator of the CAREs (Army Regional Health
Care Centers), CAU and CAZ, etc., thus starting the 1st. level of
descentralized health care.
He not only transmitted knowledge and experiences from professional,
scientific and administrative points of view, but he also was a reference
and a model to be followed.
This brief summary of his professional life from the beginning until his
death, in February 18, 2004, intends to be a sincere acknowledgement
from those of us who had the privilege of working and learning with
someone who devoted his life to the Institution.
