Admission process and refereeing system
The papers submitted for publication will be evaluated by the Editor and Editorial Committee, then submitted to peer review, expert advisors (referees) national and international for their opinion and judgment, with DOUBLE BLIND refereeing system, i.e. both authors and referees are unknown to each other.
The evaluation will be carried out within 60 days and within this period the manuscript will be returned to the authors, in case adjustments or corrections are required. The article may be accepted in its entirety, rejected or accepted with modifications suggested by the reviewers. The paper will then be sent back to the author, who will have 30 days to make the suggested corrections and send it back to the editor. The Editorial Committee will determine whether it is published or requires a new peer review.
In the reception of the papers before sending to reviewers, the manuscript is evaluated for similarities and/or plagiarism, applying the Plagiarisma.net method.
Confidentiality
Any manuscript submitted for peer review is a confidential document and must remain so until it is formally published.
Plagiarism policy
To deal with a case of plagiarism Salud Militar follows the guidelines included in the International Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) flowchart. Available at: http://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts.
In case of possible plagiarism in a published article:
The person who notifies us of a plagiarism situation will be informed of the process to be followed.
The articles are compared to check the degree of copying.
The case will be presented to the Editorial Committee for their opinions and comments.
The submitting author of the article in question will be sent documentary evidence of the plagiarism case and will be asked to respond.
If the authors are found responsible for plagiarism:
The editor of the journal in which the original plagiarized article was published and the authors of the plagiarized article will be informed.
Military Health will publish an official retraction of the paper.
The online version of the article will be withdrawn.
The journal will not publish any other article by the authors involved in the plagiarism for a period of 3 years.
Reports will be submitted to the authorities of the institution of the authors involved in the plagiarism, documenting the situation.
About the author's rights
The author will not receive any monetary compensation or royalties for the publication of his/her work in Salud Militar. Authors may adopt other non-exclusive license agreements for distribution of the published version of the work (for example: deposit it in a repository or publish it in a monographic volume) as long as the initial publication in Salud Militar is indicated. Authors are allowed and encouraged to disseminate their work through the internet (for example in archives or institutional repositories, as well as in their social networks.
Copyright notice
All articles and images published in Salud Militar are under Creative Commons CC licenses, which is a complement to traditional copyright, in the following terms: first, authorship of the referenced document must always be acknowledged and second, no article or work published in the journal may have commercial purposes of any nature. Authors retain their copyright and assign to the journal the right of first publication of their work, which will simultaneously be subject to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License that allows sharing the work as long as the initial publication in this journal is indicated. Open Access publishing and Creative Commons licenses Open Access (OA) is a movement that promotes free and open access to scientific literature, encouraging its free availability on the Internet and allowing any user to read, download, copy, print, distribute or any other legal use of it, without any financial, technical or any other kind of barrier. The only restriction on distribution and reproduction is to give the author control over the integrity of his or her work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited. In the context of R&D, open access typically focuses on access to scientific information, covering two main categories: Peer-reviewed research articles (published in scientific journals) and other kinds of documents such as conference papers, grey literature, doctoral theses, dissertations or teaching materials among others.
Research data (data that constitute the empirical basis for publications and/or primary data): The Budapest Declaration established the two main paths for open access: Green path or self-archiving path, based on the practice of depositing previously published works in an open access repository. The repository can be institutional, thematic (e.g. arXiv), or general (e.g. Zenodo).Golden way, consists of the publisher of a journal publishing the papers in open access immediately and perpetually in time, under a license in which the author maintains the copyright. Journals usually require a payment for publication costs, the so-called APCs (article processing charges). Journals that allow the golden way may be open access journals or hybrid journals, i.e., journals that provide access by subscription but offer authors the option of publishing the final version of their article - for a fee - in immediate open access.
Subsequently, other variants of the traditional open access pathways have emerged: Bronze pathway refers to articles that are free to read on the publishers' pages, but without an explicit open license that allows their distribution and reuse. Diamond or platinum pathway refers to journals that publish in open access, and that do not charge authors for publishing or readers for reading. These journals are generally funded by academic or government institutions, or scientific societies. This is an open access journal, and articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 License, which allows others to remix, tweak, and build upon the work non-commercially, as long as appropriate credit is given and new creations are licensed under the same terms.
Publication free of charge
Our journal has no charges for authors, that is, there are no costs for sending articles for evaluation, article processing, subscription, translation, or any other type of cost.

At the end of the work to be published there should be a statement of the contribution of each of the authors to the work, based on the following characteristics:
a. conception
b. design
c. data acquisition
d. data analysis
e. interpretation and discussion of results
f. drafting and critical review
g. approval of the final version
It is necessary to have participated in at least two of these stages in order to be considered an author of the work. Other contributions may be included in an acknowledgements section.
Cover photo
In case the manuscript does not have any figure that can be considered for the cover of the article, the authors may submit with the manuscript up to three photos of the subject referred to in the article, in case of not having any, the editor will provide a word cloud highlighted in the text.
Erratum and retractions
Honest errors are a part of science and publishing and require publication of a correction when they are detected. Corrections are needed for errors of fact. Matters of debate are best handled as letters to the editor, as print or electronic correspondence, or as posts in a journal-sponsored online forum. Updates of previous publications (e.g., an updated systematic review or clinical guideline) are considered a new publication rather than a version of a previously published article. In the case of errata or retractions, we follow the recommendations of the ICMJ. We also do this through the Letters to the Editor section.
Editorial ethics and good practices
International standards of ethics should be respected in the design, development of the work and preparation of the manuscript.
Salud Militar adheres to the ethical standards of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). These standards are in force during all stages of the selection and publication processes, and apply to all participants, including authors, reviewers, editors and editorial committee. Available at: https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Guidelines. The journal follows the recommendations for the preparation, reporting, editing and publication of academic papers in medical journals prepared by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Available at: http://www.icmje.org/
Si the work involves the participation of humans or animals the author must ensure that it was carried out in compliance with the Helsinki declaration published by the World Medical Association (WMA). Available at: https://www.wma.net/es/que-hacemos/etica-medica/declaracion-de-helsinki/. In randomized clinical trials, the authors must have obtained the patient's written informed consent authorizing its publication, reproduction and dissemination in electronic format in Military Health. In the event that photos or patient data are reproduced in the article, these should not identify the individuals. At the end of the work to be published, the percentage of contribution of each of the authors to the work must be stated, based on the following characteristics: conception, design, analysis, interpretation of results, writing and critical review.

Policies for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The journal Salud Militar makes available to authors, reviewers and editorial team the policies to regulate the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the process of drafting, reviewing and editing articles submitted for consideration in the journal.
Some examples of how to declare the use of AI tools as appropriate: images, graphics, compilation of bibliographic and other sources, and the suggested wording of the text.
No use of AI: We, the authors, declare that no AI was used for the conceptualization or writing of this article.
Drafting: We, the authors declare that we used an artificial intelligence tool [NAME OF TOOL OR WEBSITE] to assist us in the drafting of this article. This tool helped us to improve the structure and clarity of the text. The AI-generated content was thoroughly reviewed by us to ensure accuracy and consistency with the objective of the study.
Data analysis: In this study, we employed a machine learning algorithm [NAME OF TOOL OR WEBSITE] to analyze the data collected. This tool allowed us to identify patterns and trends that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. We made sure to validate the results obtained with other analysis methods to avoid bias.
Translation: We used the artificial intelligence tool [NAME OF TOOL OR WEBSITE] to translate parts of this article from English to Spanish. The tool helped us speed up the translation process, but we performed a thorough review to ensure the quality and accuracy of the translations.
Grammar check: For the grammar and spelling check of this article, we used the AI tool [NAME OF TOOL OR WEBSITE]. This allowed us to identify errors and improve the fluency of the text. However, we performed a final review to ensure that the article met the quality standards of the journal.
Image generation: In this study, we generated images [INDICATE WHICH] using an AI tool [NAME OF TOOL OR WEBSITE]. The images were used to illustrate certain concepts in the study. We verified that the images were accurate and representative of the data and theories discussed in the article.
