He was one of the lucky ones who studied in the best period of our Medical School. As a physician, he was perfected with the teaching of renowned professors of surgery. He did not have access to the technology we know today. The clinical tenaciously applied with careful interrogation and thorough physical examination was the basis of diagnosis and treatment guide. He barely had access to a clinical laboratory where the rising neutrophil leukocyte count warned him of an occult infection and the plain foot x-ray showed him the levels of an evolving intestinal occlusion.
