No part of the body reveals the character of the person in the same proportion as the face; none is capable of expressing the sensations, feelings and emotions of man as the face. Generally, the one who suffers injuries in this area of the body feels psychic limitations and considers himself exposed to the criticism of all those around him, which motivates a diminution of his personality. These disfigurements are caused by: congenital malformations, developmental disorders; mutilations of pathological origin, such as oncological diseases and their surgical sequels; traffic accidents and civil and/or military occupational accidents. Somatic prostheses are intended for the aesthetic, functional and psychological rehabilitation of those patients who have suffered any of these alterations. The objective of this work is to present the background and scope of this new dental specialty, SOMATOPROTHESIS, the different types of prosthesis and the materials most frequently used.
