Abstract

He was one of those chosen ones who have the gift of teaching and exercise it almost without knowing it; or if they do know it, they do not notice it. They let it flow as subtly as water drains from their hands. You can't hold it forever in your hands; it soon disappears but it has already wet you. But his teaching had a very special connotation. It was not purely academic. He never overwhelmed with endless bibliographic citations or statistical data, but in three sentences he would delineate like no one else a clinical situation that no one else had seen, promptly give its solution and draw a definitive conclusion. Strangely, he knew how to combine in a very special way his respect and natural facility for the good use of language, which transformed him into an orator of high carats, with an incredible and incomparable power of synthesis. Solidly trained in his specialty, he never limited himself to it and knew how to combine it very well, not only with other medical and surgical specialties which he fundamentally served, but also with life itself, which transformed all his actions into a true philosophy.
