Abstract

Military Health is a symbol that remains 25 years old.

The outward appearance of a symbol conceals a much broader significance. The Spanish physician and scholar Félix Martí Ibáñez in the pages of an iconic journal of medical humanities (1) reminds us that symbols also fulfill a life cycle. They are born, they develop, they can suffer various affections that lead to death. Salud Militar is a symbol that has remained unscathed despite its transformations, because its basic principles have been preserved. Sustained by the permanent support of the successive National Directorates aware of its importance and evolving thanks to the lucid and tireless task of the editorial executive missions, it has led to excellence as evidenced by its inclusion in international indexes and catalogs (Latindex, Imbiomed, Actualidad Iberoamericana, DRJI, AURA, Redib, Defensa digital: repository of Ibero-American Defense publications) and the most recent implementation of the Open Journal System publishing platform for electronic publishing, still surviving the elimination of the paper edition, whose preservation many of us defend.
