Abstract

As National Director of Health for the Armed Forces, I am honored to address the scientific community in this edition of Salud Militar, a journal of clinical and biomedical research.

A health institution is a living organism, with a care component inherent to its mission, in which our Military Health Service excels. But it is also a field of learning, research, and innovation in this branch of science.

We recognize that science must have three conditions: an object of study, in this case health; a specific method that is indisputable; and a common language.

This journal meets all three conditions, but fundamentally contributes to the dissemination of scientific method and scientific language, which health professionals recognize as such.

The clinical aspect of the publication reflects the perfect combination of teaching and care in a health institution, with the treatment of patients with various pathologies on an inpatient or outpatient basis.

In its biomedical component, it reflects the actions of a cutting-edge institution focusing on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases through the development of technologies and the use of innovative drugs and therapies.

But it is also an instrument of institutional communication, a means and a way of projecting scientific research on health to other institutions.

In a very real sense, a communicational bond that enables us to think about health, but fundamentally to build and disseminate knowledge.
