The aim of the following work is to allow, on the basis of clinical and imaging data, to obtain a pilot protocol for the treatment and rehabilitation of the maxillectomized patient. The predefined and sequential design, in this type of resource, is able to allow a better technical realization of an individual internal mandibular prosthesis.
There are many patients in whom the repair of a loss of bone substance by the method recognized as ideal, the autograft, is not always possible, at least not immediately. In this type of surgery, often performed for tumors, the local and/or general conditions are not always favorable for the realization of a bone graft from the patient himself. These are the cases of certain mandibular surgical resections (hemi-resection, anterior arch, etc.), in which the proposed design method allows the successful prosthetic replacement of the mandibular segment to be resected. The use of endoprostheses or internal prostheses with bio-compatible materials is becoming more and more frequent and is capable of effectively solving the problem of repair when a homologous bone graft is contraindicated. Faced with the need to perform this type of mandibular bone surgery and in the search to offer a rehabilitative solution, we have developed in our environment, the design and the personalized and individual confection of an internal reparative mandibular prosthesis of bone substitution.
