Scientific research integrated with clinical practice guaranties a better quality in the attention and services given. The objective of this article was to describe scientific production in the D.N.S.FF.AA. through the characterization of current research projects, consideration of the scientific production and evaluation of the technical- scientific potential of the human resources available. Each of this components was examined from specific sources and with specially designed instruments. Eight projects were identified, mostly presented by chief of service doctors. Scientific production was carefully gathered observing a prevailing tendency of articles presented in conventions and national magazines. Human resources in Scientific Research Methodology, Statistics and Epidemiology were verified, and those professions that claimed more preparation also presented more scientific production. As a conclusion, internal initiative should be encouraged, multidisciplinary team work, communication of the works done with the objective of correcting some of the errors detected, to develop educational training, integrating the most qualified human resources as a way of encouraging motivation, and competency in the research field.
