Abstract

TELEMEDICINE and TELHEALTH are tools that favor the quality, safety and continuity of healthcare. They also facilitate a more active role for patients and their families in their own health care. They also make it possible to exercise control over the growing healthcare costs associated with the aging of the population and the increase in chronic diseases. Their effective incorporation into the public healthcare system requires an active commitment from the State. The leadership of health authorities is key to formulating regulatory frameworks that support the redesign of traditional work processes and to articulating the interests and needs of the multiple stakeholders involved.
