Abstract

In parallel with the development of knowledge of the different physiologies and pathologies in the human and animal area, animal models were discovered and/or created, which turned out to be a fundamental tool for the knowledge and understanding of the physiology and pathogenesis of different diseases and possible therapies. The following work has the purpose of making a brief review about animal models in experimentation and cancer research, their definition, classification, the pros and cons about their use, animal handling as well as their monitoring, ethical aspects and endpoint criteria.
