Small cell esophageal carcinoma is an uncommon entity. Until now no more than 150 cases have been reported. This neoplasia is part of the neuroendocrine carcinomas. Is a very agressive cancer and 70% of the cases is a disseminated tumour at the moment of the initial diagnosis. These tumours are sensitive to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Mean survival of metastatic disease is less than five months.
A female patient, 61 years old with a small cell esophageal carcinoma is reported. Dysphagia was the presenting symptom. Polychemothererapy with CODE (cisplatin- vincristine-adryamicin-etoposide) was utilized and a complete remission was obtained. A literature review was performed.
