Strabismus surgery is performed with the objective of correcting ocular deviation, in order to do this, the surgeon must act on the external muscles of the eye. The adequate anesthetic management in ophthalmologic surgery can contribute to the success of the procedure. The objective of this study is to analyze the different anesthetic techniques available for strabismus surgery in adults. As a work methodology, a literature review of the available literature was carried out. There are different types of anesthetic techniques for this surgery. The classic locoregional techniques (retrobulbar and peribulbar) are rarely used due to their complications. With the sub-Tenon anesthetic technique, serious complications are rare, which is why it is one of the most used in our environment. Topical contact anesthesia emerges as a variant of topical anesthesia, it is used elsewhere with promising results, microincisional surgical techniques have made possible the use of this anesthetic technique. General anesthesia continues to hold its place in special situations, such as with poorly cooperative patients. The preoperative assessment of the patient is essential for the choice of the anesthetic technique.
