Ibuprofen: a safe drug?

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, with a long history of safety and effectiveness, used in the adult population both by medical indication and as self-medication as an over-the-counter drug. Various gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, renal adverse effects, among others, have been reported after its use, in many cases due to co-administration and interaction with other drugs, dose used, treatment duration or personal risk factors of the patient. Therefore, it is essential for the medical staff to teach the patient about avoiding self-medication, to know the patient's personal history and to indicate the minimum effective dose for the shortest time required, in order to avoid potential adverse effects. The present paper has the objective of analyzing, according to the available evidence, the safety of Ibuprofen at the level of the different organs and systems of the human body.
