BiographiesAbstract
Dr. Goller was born on February 12, 1928. He studied in Montevideo, having chosen for undeniable vocation, the career of Doctor of Medicine, graduating from our Faculty on June 10, 1959.
With a clear orientation towards surgical activity, he obtained the title of General Surgeon on June 1, 1963. Since that time, he felt a particular interest in cardiovascular vascular pathology and its treatment. This led him to travel to Europe, where he took specialization courses and internships in leading centers in Switzerland and Germany. In 1963 he performed Cardiac Surgery at the University Surgical Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich (Switzerland), with Prof. Dr. A. Senning, whom he frequently remembered for his high teaching quality.
In the years 1964 to 1966, he was in the Surgical Clinic of the Hospital of Heilbronn, and in the Angiological Clinic of the Hospital of the city of Itzehoe, both in Germany.
He returned to our country, being one of the pioneers of cardio vascular surgery in our country.
He began working as a general and thoracic surgeon in the Ministry of Public Health, an institution in which he had already worked as an External Practitioner in 1952 and 1953 and then as an Internal Practitioner from 1955 to 1959.
In 1970, he began an intense teaching career at the School of Medicine. Thus, throughout several years of activity, he moved from the position of Assistant Professor of Surgical Clinic and the Department of Anatomy to those of Associate Professor of Anatomy, Surgical Clinic, and the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Hospital de Clínicas.
In 1979, he temporarily occupied the position of Director of the Surgical Clinic A.
His permanent desire for improvement made him maintain a relationship with foreign health care centers, which led him to do an internship in 1971 at the Universities of Ulm, Dusseldorf and the Clinic of Vascular Diseases in Engelkirchen, Germany. In 1981 he visited the Cardiac Surgery Service of the Mayo Clinic, where he became friends with Dr. Francisco J. Puga.
