Abstract

ABS Venous thromboembolic disease is an important cause of morbimortality in pregnant or puerperal women. The general objective of this study is to evaluate the frequency of thromboprophylaxis prescription according to current guidelines, among pregnant and puerperal women attended in the Obstetrics ward and in the Obstetric Moderate Care Unit. Material and methods: in a first stage, a retrospective descriptive study was carried out, where the medical records of pregnant and puerperal women hospitalized for obstetric or non-obstetric causes during the period 2017 - 2018 were analyzed. It was recorded whether or not those patients had contraindications for thromboprophylaxis. In a second stage, a simplified thromboprophylaxis guide was provided to the treating physicians. Results: out of 214 pregnant and puerperal pregnant women hospitalized, 53% had risk factors for thromboembolic disease and 93% of them did not receive thromboprophylaxis. In the second stage of the study, when the treating physicians were given a simplified thromboprophylaxis guide, it was observed that: the prescription of thromboprophylaxis for pregnant women at intermediate risk increased to 80% during pregnancy and to 100% in the puerperium. The prescription of thromboprophylaxis for pregnant women with 2 or more risk factors for thromboembolic disease increased 90% during pregnancy and 100% during the puerperium. Conclusions: combining multiple interventions such as the implementation of written or electronic alerts in the medical record, together with the awareness of health personnel, through continuous medical education, increases the prescription of thromboprophylaxis to women with risk factors for thromboembolic disease during pregnancy and puerperium.Study on the prescription of thromboembolic disease prophylaxis in pregnant women.
